The age span for Recent is 10,000 years...can we call the animal or plant remains of this age as fossils (may be of extinct species)? Pet elephants or pet horses were buried by our not so old ancestors. Sometimes one or two decapitated bones of such animals get dug out during field work. It is of course thrilling to find such bone remains hence in enthusiasm such bones have been interpreted as too old and as fossils (correct age can be determined by thermoluminescence or some other method). Is there any age criteria for the animal or plant remains to be distinguished as fossils??
