It is known that that every finite group can be realized as the automorphism group of a "dessin d'enfant", which is a combinatorial graphical representation of a branched covering of the Riemann sphere with three branch points. It amounts to realizing the Monster as a permutation group via the monodromy representation of the fundamental group of the sphere punctured at the three branch points.
