How intensity(peak intensity) is measured experimentally in the gaussian exponential heat source used in the laser powder bed fusion process? And in the heat flux equation, the beam spot radius is taken at which intensity falls to 1/e^2 of peak intensity. How to measure this radius. How can we choose this radius value? Please anyone explain. I searched many research papers but didn't get apt information regarding this

As a proposal you can use infrared camera and build a focused picture to the hot spot created by the laser beam. From the picture you can get P(x,y) where P is the pixel irradiance intensity or gray level.
According to this information you can determine the boundary of any region having P equal and smaller than certain level.
Some high quality cameras are sensitive infrared. You may use it also for your measurement's.

Yes, the best way to go is to use a profilometer (can be implemented using a knife edge), to measure the laser spot size, and from there estimate the resulting thermal profile by solving the heat diffusion equation
