You can directly edit the reference within your word document, unlike EndNote. So you add the citation as (Parthasarathi et al. 2016) and then delete the bits you don't need. There might be an easier way - but this is how I worked it out!

If we give the citation as (Parthasarathi et al. 2016), mendeley scripts would be working at the back. We can't edit until we export the entire document as a word file.

Hi, Emily’s suggestion is quite helpful, but the problem is after doing this, we can not update the styles.

Still looking for a better option similar to the EndNote :(

I totally agree with Sajjad. We can do edit the author name, but when we do want to change the journal format, it's not working. Till now, I'm bringing the manuscript to word file ('export as' option), then I will do editing.

Not sure this is the answer that you are looking for but:

- In the word plugin click on styles->more styles

- Right click your favorite style and go to "Edit Style"

- Now your browser should open to the mendeley style editor

- Create a new Macro in there and call it for example "InLine-Author-Year"

- Now you can determine how this macro should work and replace the "author" macro in the "in line citation" part of the style . add another command to the "in line citation" part for the issuance year

This is my fast fix, at least for one style, you can copy the macro blocks to your other styles...

you can also try out the one I created, if you go "Edit Style" then add style and at the bottum input this URL, I didn't get the "et-al" to work so at the moment it's just a suffix to the other name...

Hi. You can edit just as Emily Smeaton wrote. If Word and Mendeley are open at same time, first add the citation like (Sajjad, 2016) then delete Sajjad and keep (2016). So Mendeley asks you whether you want to keep the manuel adding or delete it. If you select keep, your resources table stays updated.

My advice is never manually edit Mendeley citations.

Solution is write " Parthasarathi et al." and then cite "Parstahasarathi et al., 2006" by "suppressing author".

Ali Gokhan Yucel if I using CSL editor, it is not manually edit right. I need to use citation for Author Name et.al (Year). Anyone familiar with the name of this style. Thanks in advance guys.
