Hi Kimia, we did an experimental investigation for analyzing the surface property of different IoL with AFM (M. Lombardo, MP. De Santo, G. Lombardo, R. Barberi, S. Serrao “Atomic Force Microscopy study of normal and photoablated porcine corneas”, Journal of Biomechanics 39, 2719-2724 (2006)). In the discussion of the article we had correlated the incidence of PCO with the high surface roughness of the IoL which occurs with PMMA. The lowest surface roughness was found for silicone and hydrophobic acrylic lens. ciao Giuseppe
Dear Colleagues,
I have just noted incorrect word in my first answer. Please read ACRYLIC HYDROPHOBIC instead of hydrophylic which can cause cataract of IOL - in other words opacification of the intraocular lens and requires the IOL exchange.
