If you want to read images with different sizes and formats, you can use a loop and store in a cell array:

list = dir('*.tif');

for i = 1:length(list)

img{i} = imread(list(i).name);

end

If you want to read several slices to make a 3D image, you can use something like this:

pattern = img%03d.tif';

img = imread(fprintf(pattern, 0)); % read first slice

for 2 =1:n % read all other slices

img(:,:,i) = imread(fprintf(pattern, i));

end

basically what i want to do

is i want to read multiple images from the directory

say images

like this

f:\progs\images

images contain a database of 100 images(say)

i want to compute euclidean distance of a given image with the every100 images

one by one

i want to see which image out of 100 has the least euclidean distance

So u see i have to operate on those 100 images one by one

Depending on the size of your images, you may have memory issues loading all the images at once on a 32bit operating system but you will definitely solve any memory issues on a 64bit operating system.

Which type of memory issue are you referring to

Run out of memory that would oblige you to load only part of your bunch of images or even less efficiently load 2 images at a time as you have to compute the distance between two images.

But as I said, it depends on the effective size of the images.

Do you need to calculate the gaussian metric every image with each other? As Francois Abram said, you could have problems with memory (Matlab running out of memory). An initial approach if this is the case would be calculating it with the first and all the others; closing it (erasing from memory), doing the same with the second image and the rest os N-2 images, closing it and erasing the variable from memory, and so on and so for. It may not be very fast in making the calculation but you could be quite sure the memory problem didn't arise.

And as the algorithm goes by, it'd be faster and faster. It is just an idea.

sorry, euclidean distance... I don't know in what I was thinking :D Anyway, the idea is the same.

Hi Rakesh, I remember answering your last question but since I can not see it , I suspect I might have done something wrong. Nevertheless here is my answer once again:

That piece of code is a Matlab function that you can call from the Matlab command line or in any of your programs.

All you need to do is:

>> [your_data_structure_name] = readtextfiless(filename,firstFile, lastFile, columns, mxln);

Example:

>> [Data] = readtextfiless(mydata,1, 1000, 5, 1000);

In this example the function will scan through files with name mydata1.txt ... mydata1000.txt and it expects file with 5 columns and 1000 lines.

I want to add some information about that question. Maybe it can be useful for people who want to search solution for their works.

For example; you have 20 folders (between 1-20) and each folder has 20 images (between 1.bmp-20.bmp or 1.jpg-20.jpg).

Then you can do test automatically like this;

% path for writing diagnostic images

global DIAGPATH

global Dirs

DIAGPATH = 'C:\Users\SEZER\Desktop\test\';

numDirs=20;

for i = 1:numDirs

Dirs = fullfile(DIAGPATH, num2str(i), '\');

for k=1:nImages

eyeimage = imread([Dirs, num2str(k), '.bmp']);

if you have one more than .m files and if you use path of file on other .m files, then you should add there "global Dirs".
