To study the effect of surface roughness on heat generation and plastic deformation of butted welded strips by friction stir welding we need to try different strips of different roughhouses deliberately  created on the surface. CSM is an instrumentation used to measure the coefficient of friction of coatings and paints etc at nano scale. However, we think it is appropriate for surfaces of tens nanometers roughness only, to resort  to the traditional method i.e to heat the samples to the required temperature and to let the shoulder start sliding against the sample under the proposed load is available option. But is there any other more accurate method? Is there any instrument available in Malaysia USM and UniMAP or somewhere else can measure that. Please advise.
