I'm not sure if it is what you are looking for, but perhaps Bernard Leupen's book "The Frame and the Generic Space" may fit some of your needs, namely by providing potentially useful bibliography, and by describing a plausible application of a "frame" concept in architectural artifacts. I have worked on frames and values in sustainability in architectural design practice for the past few years with one of my PhD students. So I’d say there are plenty of references when it comes to frames and framing in general but not so much so in architecture. You’ll be able to find a couple of publications we have on this topic on RG. More to come out soon.
