You can calculate the encapsulation efficiency (EE) of your alginate by two ways.
Either by determining the amount of the drug in the supernatant and then deducting it from the initial amount.
EE% = (Wi - Ws) * 100/ Wi.
Or by dissolving/or breaking certain amount of alginate capsule in a solvent.
EE % = (Wi- Wt) ×100 % / Wi
Wt : is the total amount of drug in the capsule suspension, Ws is the total amount of drug in the supernatant and Wi is the total quantity of drug added initially during preparation.
Which is the best solution in which the alginate capsules can dissolved?
The solution I used to break the microparticles was phosphate buffered at pH 7,5.
