I know that there is a code to convert such files to "text", which works in DOS but I can not find it. As the ".dat" files include 6 separate signals the routine codes like "fopen and fread" can not open the files with separate column. The physionet website give some tools and instructions to convert, but they are more complicated. I am looking for a simple way to convert the files.

the related ".hea" file should be dl to be able to open the ".dat" files.
If you know the number of recorded channels and duration of the recordings, you can import the data by using "fopen" and "fread" :)

Thanks for your reply, but I have mentioned that "FOPEN" and "FREAD" do not work in this case. The signals were multi-channel and need some extra codes.

you have to make .mat files from .dat ones! how?! there is a blog in physionet which makes this transformation!
Well, there is a simpler way- just log in to Physiobank ATM. You can directly download the signal files as .mat files and annotations as .txt files. Hope it helps.
