I want to calculate the resolution of load cell. I am using OBUG- 3 kg load cell. I attach it's specification. Would you please help me to find to resolution of this model. I attach the specification of digital indicator too.
You are exciting the cell with 5V, and sensing the output with a resolution of 24 bits. If the ADC has an input range of 5V (not specified) then the LSB error is 0.3microvolts.
And what we now are lacking is a sensitivity value - how many Newtons of load yield one volt? You can deduce this figure by loading the cell with known masses and recording the output for a fixed excitation.
When you know that sensitivity, then you can convert the LSB error into a load.
Pay attention to the specs for the rated loadcell output and the display counts of your indicator.
Let's assume that you have 2kg loadcell. Its output is specified for 1mV/V excitation meaning that if you have 5V excitation, you shall get 5mV output for a full-scale load of 2kgs. Simply correlate this as 5000uV (microvolts) corresponding to 2000gm of load.
Next, your digital indicator has a full-scale input span of +/-20mV to give you a count of +/-20,000 meaning it will have a resolution of 1uV (microvolt).
I hope that this explanation clarifies your doubts.
