Intresting but I have strong reservations on its validity. Can landuse pattern and ecosystem functioning cope with the natural changes in temperature and acidity. Are these due to only due to anthropogenic forcings? the acceleration in climate change is surely due to human forcings but there are major geologic processes playing key role on a very very long time scale.

Thank you Saif, I think that the answer to your questionn ias NO. There is a need to change the development culture world over, specially in developed countries. But a territorial approach can help to construct concrete answers that could be scaled up in more and more territories in a long run process. A Climate Smart Territory is a process that takes time and is only one of the many strategies strategies that can be used. Then my questions remain. If I know how a CST could look like, then I know whay I need to do.

SECOND you asked if forests can provide biomass to produce the energy of the future in a sustainable way.

Using the forests of Canada (a country with low population density) as an example --- IF the total annual allowable harvest was used to produce energy it might yield 2 EXAJOULES per year --- while Canada presently uses 10 EXAJOULES per year ... so there is no way that the forests of most countries could supply yhe energy required for modern civilization// sustainably or not.

The paradigm of integrating territorial, value chains and livelihoods, as sure pathways to sustainable development based on approach for food, nutritional, health and livelihood security through climate smart territorial concept.

I think it is dangerous to believe in technological and planning solutions alone to solve the problem as this often leads to the result that we just forget that some live above of what is healthy for the planet and that solutions need to include to come to consumption levels (inc. the production of waste) that are sustainable. This however requires an entirely different paradigm of how economies are functioning.

In this field very little that has a chance to become mainstream has been offered, and it would be a surprise that such comes up soon as there are too many powerful interests which benefit from the way how the economy is functioning, and also too many which are less powerful, but still feel that a consumer society is supporting their ideas of a good life, no matter what this does to our planet. And to add: many who read this now, probably including the writer of the lines, is among them. But a good start would be to introduce small changes to our lives, which would not reduce our well-being, but at least a bit our consumption levels.

This would be really smart.
