I have a mixture of pharmaceuticals (trace of hundreds micrograms/litres) and hydrocarbons in water matrix, what method can be used to extract the compounds and detection them?
The default method would be to use either solid-phase or liquid-liquid extraction to concentrate the drugs and hydrocarbons and analyse the extract using HPLC-MS or GC-MS depending on the volatility of the drugs.
Details would depend on the nature of the drugs and other compounds of your interest.
@ Precious: As I read your question and your answer I feel a bit uneasy about my ability to help you. I would need some reassurance you are proficient in instrumental analysis to be able to give you a meaningful answer or to be your guide in solving the problem. That said I'd suggest you contact someone in the analytical chemistry department of your University to help you out, or even run the analyses for you.
