of a New Modern” portrays Fathy as an agent of reviving and creating a new an architectural
practice that is connected with the essence of an Islamic architectural tradition.
Was Fathy’s architecture a continuity of traditional Islamic architecture or was it a reactionary
response to modernism?
Being reactionary to modernism wasn't his aim. In my view, he modernized the traditional architecture of (parts of) Islamic countries or in other words he tried to harmonize the traditional architecture with the modern society and vice versa.
Architecture philosophy of The master Hassan Fathy Pacha was deep, so I think the question that you asked reduces it (something like yes/no question), we must really know him : know his evolution as an architect and as architecture theory writer to maybe build an objectif opinion on his legacy.
So for my modest person, Hassan Fathy Pacha was a good sensitive observer of Islamic cultural heritage, and a pragmatic thinker of people's living problems.
I was expecting a yes or no @ahmed ... :) that's a good point @aryan... harmonize tradition with modern...
If I say that he had very strong and relevant ideas ... but couldn't put it in to practise effectively... what is your response to that??
Architecture is not maths that could have a Yes or No question... Its more complicated than that, for the second question a lot of people their answer is yes... For my modest person, some of Hassan Pacha architecture maybe not realised as he would because of context problems..... to resume all that we can say that Fathy Pacha gave us a spirit a new spirit a new soul of architecture
yes it was a respons to modernism, not in the styling way but more in the use of local and traditional practices, habitats made by local people using clay and mud, reducing cost, take distance with modernism models, etc.

I'm ok with point 3 but the application i don't see the link with Hassan Fathy?
Ahmed El Amine Bekhelifi it was just his philosophies that were taken... application was how it can be done in general... all the applications reflect these philosophies..
So you agree my comments when i've spoke about His philosophy, for the applications of islamic fikh, i dvise to see جميل أكبر @JamelAkbar works.
