I'm in my final year, about to start my capstone project, I would like to do my project around the issues of fake media, misinformation, biased information and propaganda, from a cyber security stand point, but I'm struggling to refine it down to something more useable. Was wondering if anyone had any ideas?
Fake media and misinformation is an interesting topic because is a serious challenge, especially in the social network environment.
I think you can work on the mitigation and detection of fake media and misinformation by using intelligence artificial techniques such as Machine learning and deep learning to detect and mitigate your target.
I guess it would already help if the link between information and the source of it could be authenticated. This would allow tracebility hence trust on the internet. The "On the Internet, nobody knows you're a dog" cartoon is a symbol for the situation.
If your project is all about issues of fake media, misinformation, biased information and propaganda, then I cant see how it can be related to cyber security. If you could state a good example of what you really mean, then maybe I can give you some. :) Thank you.

In today's world it's very difficult to validate a news, as so many times, reputable news outlets, such as CNN, Washington Post, New York Times have to retract their stories. You can base your project on phishing, spam, which are more tangible to detect.
What are you looking for is always there. All the information medias are :¨ fake media, misinformation, biased information and propaganda¨.
Have you heard of Joseph Goebbels, the German minister during the WW2 responsible for the media? His famous words were " Lie Lie until the people believe you". There is no genuine information in our world now a days, all medias are directed to their interests. Tells you what they want from you in away you want to hear. In my opinion, there is no one information media honest and tells the truth !!?? Find another project.
