I,ve developed a simple inverter with matlab simulink. Is it possible to generate an equivalent VHDL or Verilog code from that simulink so that it can be implemented in an hardware setup like FPGA, DSP, Micro-controller. If yes, then please give me a detailed procedure of the same.

what inverter have you made in matlab? Is it the household inverter? FPGAs/DSPs/uC are ICs, so you can only get a sine wave (digital) out if them (If you have ADC, you get analog also). the actual conversion of DC->AC will have to be implemented using MOSFETs e.t.c.

Actually my project is on series active filter mitigating voltage harmonics. It is a closed loop circuit, instantaneously producing equivalent and opposite voltage by the filter to cancel out those harmonics. The point is i have to generate appropriate PWM gating signals either for those MOSFETs or BJTs or IGBTs, etc. from the FPGA / DSP/ mC

Matlab provides a method to convert your matlab code to VHDL/Verilog. But from experience, it may not be always synthesisable. Also your project requires correct timings. So you should be cautious. You can adopt one of the following methods. pls tell me if you have any other idea also.
1) Write FPGA code (vhdl/verilog).
2) Convert individual matlab modules to HDL and then patch it up (try to convert entire code also.. you may get through)
3) convert your matlab model to C. Now use embedded processors in FPGA and go ahead (Xilinx-EDK / Altera NIOS).

Though the code generation might not be appropriate, yet it can be helpful for me to alter the code instead of fully writing the FPGA program.

Check if you have "Simulink® HDL Coder" in your toolbox. This is what you require to convert simulink to HDL. There is another facility (Matlab to modelsim link) which helps you in co-simulations, ie, create test vectors from Matlab and give it to HDL simulator.
Now I dont have the tool access, so please give me some time.
Which HDL simulator are you using? Modelsim?

If your targeted platform is a Xilinx FPGA. Then its better if you will use SystemGenerator tool from Xilinx. You can debug the simulink model in real time
