I'm working on an ongoing project where strength and density are the prime factor for casting. Density can be obtained of fresh concrete which is useful after 28 days, for other tests.
it is impossible for testing the workability of freshly concrete with single and simple method nowadays because of two points: firstly, there are many factors such as ambient temprature, mix recipe, difference of composed heterogeneous materials and hydration process resulting in the consistence and flowability of fresh concrete is nonstationarity, second, it is difficult to test the properties in holistic of casting fresh concrete in situ whereas it is vital important for evaluation methodology.
II agree with Zu Tian. Furthermore, there are usually four parameters that describe the workability of concrete, mobility, stability, compactability anf finishishability. It is very difficult to measure all these four parameters by a single test. In my opinion,It is unacceptable to to describe the workability of concrete using the common slump test alone.
