Original papers will add more to your profile than review articles... writing review articles is time consuming as well.. i would suggest concentrate more on research and write a review paper once in a while... good original papers of a well designed study and of good clinical implications will get you citations as well. I would suggest you to choose a core area for research
Thanks Rimple, I agree with you. I just noticed that there is a trend among new researchers to write review articles just because they usually get a lot of citations!
I mean, that's good but it will not help you to improve your skills..
original items would be better. Review articles take time, and they repeat/summarize what was done previously. In my opinion, you'd be better off investing your time toward an original item that contributes new knowledge to the field.
I agree with the part of adding a new contribution to the current knowledge. However, for the time issue, don’t you think original articles can take a lot of time may be even more than review articles?
Start with research paper, then move to review article, because writing a review article takes a lot of time and effort as compared to writing a research article cause it involves lots of critical appraisal of medical literature as compared to research article.
Thanks, Ankit for your comment. I think it will take about the same time for both since you will need a lot of time in collecting and analyzing data for original articles, right?
