I assume it is about central differencing, higher-order, upwinding, damping, de-aliasing, etc. If I am right you may have a look on the attached article with a simple but thorough analysis of the above topics for FDs.
Many CFD textbooks illustrate this issue... For example a simple lecture is the Peric & Ferziger book. Are you interested only in FD or you want also a look to FV?
you have many method can apply, such as upwind, central, hybrid, exponential, power law .... you should notice to your Peclet number and computing ability to choose any of these methods. totally hybrid method is better than others. I have a good reference but unfortunately it is in persian.
