There are a few cancer cases reported in media stating that these people were continuously exposed to electromagnetic waves emitted from mobile telecommunication transmission towers. While hearing public interest litigation certain court in India has directed the mobile service providers/operators to reduce the electromagnetic field intensity level in the vicinity of residential areas. It is not very clear whether the reported cancer cases are really due to exposure of electromagnetic fields emitted by the mobile transmission tower. Request somebody may explain with authentic research data the factual position on this.

This is not the first time that a court has made this kind of ruling. An Italian court did something similar some years ago. Immediate public concerns can carry more weight than rigorous scientific evidence. I recall that the World Health Organisation has published guidelines.
Lowering the electromagnetic field intensity in the vicinity of residential areas probably means that phones in those areas will use more transmitting power (unless the receive pattern is different from the transmit pattern) so that the total energy into the heads of phone users and people nearby is likely to be much greater in those places, even though the transmitters are on all the time and the phones aren't.

A document by INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION ON NON‐IONIZING RADIATION PROTECTION "ICNIRP guidelines for limiting exposure to time varying electric and magnetic fields" is a good reference to see what amount of RF energy is considered safe for human health. You can use some basic equations to find out at what distance from the base station you are at safe levels, of course taking into account transmitted power and antenna gain etc. My personal experience is that most of the time the power received by humans in such areas from base station is less than what they are exposed to from their own cell phones. Based on these guidelines some safe distances can be formulated by regulatory authorities. Like Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) has developed a very comprehensive Radiation safety standard. Thank you Irfan Sir. Question is whether non-ionization radiation from the tower of such low level really cause cancer. I agree that high intensity non-ionization radiation from cell phone may cause heating of skin thus damage it.

Most standards are based on the ICNIRP one referred to by Irfam Majid. For example, the EU standard is.
It is very hard to prove that something doesn't cause cancer. There is no evidence yet that it does. The very large number of mobile phones in use by young children should soon result in useful data being available, though, - except that they may spend more of their time on the phone indoors being exposed to vapours from modern plastics and die from that! Even then, it is hard to convince ordinary people using statistical data, which is all there will be (if it is safe). Let's hope it is, as it seems to be at the moment, and that there isn't a disaster scale epidemic of mobile phone cancers waiting for us.
