Evolution of electric energy sources, evolution of DSOs, RES in role of main energy sources for small and medium consumers, advances in AI and crypto Currencies, liberalization of market. All these features make energy trading business harder and with much guaranteed flexibility not easily achieved at same scale and same cost everywhere and anytime. Modelling energy market as CryptoCurrency market could make this goals possible.
Well, this is definitely an interesting question worth reserach.
In contrary to Bitcoin, taking into consideration that e.g. Solarcoin has not been a success yet, we should carefully think about somekind of energy CryptoCurrency design that really would benefit the future decentralized and renewable power market, including flexibilities and storage. And be transparent to the communities, to avoid fraud and money-laundry.

There is many issues that needs to be attended for optimal and full solution of this problem. Basically, energy market looks a lot like Crypto Currency virtual space eco system. With amount of generated energy from RES, nod (in this case energy provider) brings up much more information suitable for energy market, like: geo position, kWh, reliability, past generation curve, type of generator, etc. All this information makes one ECoin with its initial value. This coin makes him concurrent on market and so on. This is just idea for now.

very interesting approach indeed. Some important aspects:
1) the needed computing power should be kept to a minimum. Else a Crypto approach will be too power consuming, generating a lot of small waste heat spots. This would not be a desirable feature.
2) How do you intend to handle the power grid balancing issue?
1) smart meters in front of generators are going to be data uploaders on cloud, and therefore power generators are going to be mines. That brings conclusion that miners can only be power generators with smart meters in representation role for generators in Curency chain. Energy generation will be chain-like data in cloud. Also cogeneration brings more ECoin and more energy usability.
2) power grid operates in form of smart grid with all its atributes. energy market doesnt have direct connection to Power Grid because of Distribution property infrastructure. Smart grid gathers information, hanging data on Main Information Board for all Smart Meters to see. According to hash that Smart Meters upload about generator they represent, price for particular energy source will be calculated and displayed in market.
