What spatial resolution would be required for effective mapping of mangrove forest extent and location on a global scale using satellite imagery? Would multispectral imagery suffice or does one have to use hyperspectral imagery? Can one obtain 85% accuracy?

You can use Aster Images with 30 meter resolution for the entire world, i think it´s enough with multispectral imagery, also you can use landsat images.

Thanks, I also believe that multispectral imagery should give reasonable results.
I think 5m spatial resolution is a good start for forest mapping.
Multispectral at global level will be enough and will exceed 60% accuracy.
High resolution images (50cm) will be required for special areas and applications.
Hyperspectral are important, and their use need to be tested. More data means more information, better understanding and more benefits.
Dear Dr. Klemas. I recently went through a paper where they compared 5, 10, 15.....30 m resolution multi-spectral images for mangrove mapping. Unfortunately, I could not find the paper now to give you as reference, but they found 10 m resolution as the best among the resolutions they used for their comparison. Thanks.
