Include all type of wear that can be occur on a piston that could affect the lifespan of the piston but how it is affect the performance of an engine, Does the engine performance decrease?
Apparently, the engine performance decreases. Wear between piston rings and cylinder leads to leakage of combustion gases, which directly influence the performance.
Obviously there will be volumetric losses from the engine chamber due to leakage, leading to reduction of the IMEP, and therefore lower output power for the same combustion and piston travel.
The overall consequence will be reduced output for same air enthalpy created within the cylinder chamber - that is, reduction in efficiency !
The wear of the piston causes the phenomenon of blow-by . This phenomenon leads to power losses which reduces engine efficiency . The diesel engine is more susceptible to blow-by phenomena because its combustion mode requires high pressure in the cylinder . engine performance decreases when the piston is worn
