I have looked at the macro-economic and micro-economic drivers of innovation, but recently it dawned upon me that maybe climate is a variable that also influences innovation... or maybe not? But if does, whether it is a direct or an indirect driver of innovation?

Some of the world best innovation in the present times have come from cold climes of US and Europe (and in Asia from Japan except Singapore which is surely an anomaly). All top-20 clusters ranked by WIPO in terms of being most inventive, are from cold climes.
