Doing research and choosing a career of a scientist is not a widespread phenomena for the youth people in any country, I suppose. A person must be devoted to this field of activity.
Many students do not want to pursue an academic carreer in Brazil because they need to study a long time to become a professor, and receive a small scholarship. Furthermore, it is not very attractive because the government has reduced academic opportunities, especially for social science fields. On the other hand, Brazilian young researchers are interested in Asian countries because of their rich culture and philosophy. International partnerships are very important to construct knowledge. Most researchers need to be passionate about their fields.
One has to love his career in order to be successful. Otherwise it doesn't work. Doing research career as any others (arts, medicine, finance, etc) does strongly depend on one's skills, talents and personal preferences. One cannot choose a certain career just because this particular research domain become popular recently. Personal likes and dislikes, talents and skills do matter while choosing a career path.
ADDICTION to research is required. You can arrange lectures for students by highly experienced and established researchers. Lecture must be inspirational.
