Does anyone have any thoughts whether present day evangelism is models the biblical record, or has it been redefined?

I'm currently doing research for a book on the work of evangelism. The title of the book is "The Fields Are Ready: A Fresh Look at the Work of Evangelism." In contrasting the biblical record regarding the work of evangelism with present day efforts there seems to be large discrepancies. I would like some input as whether others see the same. I think that present day evangelistic efforts fall short of the Great Commission.
