The exact dimensions will depend very much on the material and condition ( is it a continuous solid, is it an adhesive bond? How though and how rigid is it? Etc...), so several studies use very different geometries. Like in SEB or other specimens, there are minimum dimensions for warranting plane strain, to keep K as stable as possible, to avoid buckling, maintain mode I, etc... That depends again of the material and the specimen usually ends up quite big.
Beres, Koul et al. (journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2009, pag. 536,ss) proposed a compact specimen which can be of large interest if you have space constrains or scarce material! If you are looking for crack growth rate in elastoplastic regime, or J. Check the paper for recomendations on the shape, it is about as big as a CT specimen of the same thickness, just with a quite large tapper (more than 20°, About double of other designs). The important thing is to have the right compliance formula for the specimen you choose. The paper makes recommendations to improve the results obtained if you blindly follow ASTM E 810 for J-integral evaluation.
