Suppose one sends a single photon through a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI). QM says the photon is in both arms at the same time before leaving MZI. Now suppose the second beamsplitter is removed before the release of the photon. The photon is still in superposition of being in both arms because of the first beamsplitter.

Now if one puts a detector in the left arm (way outside MZI zone) and gets a yes result at time t the photon is immediately found to be passing through this arm (even inside the MZI zone) because it couldn't have come from right arm.

So does the photon go through both arms or through the left arm? Before time t the photon has been in both arms and after time t it turns to has been in the left arm.

So we run into a paradox! The measurement has changed the past!!!

I would appreciate any comment on this issue because I didn't see it formulated (and less answered) anywhere.
