We have worked with school-aged children to change their negative attitudes regarding their hearing impaired classmates.

There is research to suggest that reading books with young children that represent disabilities in positive ways may influence positive attitude development. Here are links to two recent articles: (1) highlights a book list of suggested children's literature (2) shows findings from a study about the impact of sending these books home using a lending library system.
