Social media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, allow people to share personal stories, pictures, opinions etc. They contribute to what Rainie & Wellman call "networked individualism" (http://networked.pewinternet.org/2012/05/24/networked-individualism-what-in-the-world-is-that-2/). At the same time, some scholars argue that social media create echo chambers and cyber balkanization, where users only get to see the content they are already interested in. Thus, social media would lead to more groupthink and less individualism. What's your stance on the question? Do social media increase individualism? Or do they lead to more streamlined and less individualistic lifestyles and behavior?
