Holistic approach is needed and everyone in organization should be aware of the necessity of transformation and its benefits.

I'm going to be a bit contrarian here. I believe that "design" is just a trendy term for engineering, perhaps with a bit of aesthetics thrown in. The design process is pretty much what good engineering has always been about:
1. Clarify the problem.
2. Propose various solutions.
3. Choose one to develop.
4. Create a prototype.
5. Evaluate and modify the prototype.
6. Restart the cycle as many times as necessary.
7. Manufacture.
8. Start the cycle again.
