Do not confuse monitoring and diagnosis tasks (Schreiber et al. 2000). A dashboard is a monitoring tool that supports a user's situation awareness (Few 2013). It tells you if all is well or not, and if there’s problem, where it is. However, it does not support the analysis of the cause of the problem (diagnosis). There are other types of tools that can provide the results through visualization.
