Cluster heads can be chosen either via centralized scheme or distributed scheme. Either their can be an election among coordinators who could be cluster heads, based on various parameters. This is suited for dynamic cluster head selection strategies and where we change cluster head repeatedly over a period of time depending upon various parameters like residual energy. In centralized scheme, PAN coordinator may choose and fix a single cluster head for every cluster.
