I want to synthesis Graphene oxide by Hummers method, but I am confused with quantity of chemicals like weight of graphite, weight of Na2No3, weight of KMnO4 and water taken for reactions..
Hummer's method and what they termed as Hummer's method + in paper titled "Improved synthesis of graphene oxide" from JM Tour's lab.. 10.1021/nn1006368.. Pretty comprehensive paper.
According to Hummers' method ,the reaction produce approximately 188 g of graphite oxide to 100 g of graphite used with ratio of carbon to oxygen of 2.5. Hummers' method consumes large quantity of chemicals, therefore Modified Hummers' method must be adopted to synthesis graphene oxide.I agree with you ,there is some confuse about quantity of chemicals used. You may refer to original articles of Hummers' method and Modified Hummers' method.
