It depends on the purpose for which you want to use it.You should also consider that maybe the energy involved is not large enough to produce any visible effects on a concrete plate (remember that the WTT does not work on beams, but on plates which are fully supported on their base)

This test method is a standard test Method for Hamburg Wheel-Track Testing of Compacted Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) and is not applicable on concrete beams.

HWT is not a fundamental test. It is simulative in nature and considered a torture test for asphalt mixtures. Having said that, as a researcher you can always modify test equipment to fit the conditions that you are trying to create for your tested material. Loading beams can be achieved with HWT if you manage to develop fixtures that can support the beams from both ends and utilize the right sensors to measure deflection at the bottom of the beam. Of course, you have to work out the required load to induce the deflection either by trial and error or by modeling (mathematically) your test set up. In my opinion, if you are researching something, you do not always have to follow standardized test procedures. You may want to think out of the box from time to time as long as your ideas remain scientifically sound.
