What do you think if we propose a residential building envelope made of water which is non-toxic, fire resistant, recyclable, and low-cost with high specific heat? I am currently working on a proposal which water is the main structural element of my envelope prototype but I would like to know your feedback on this matter and any resources that might help.

When you say " water is the main structural element", would I be correct to presume that you mean hollow structural panels that are filled with water?.
Such concepts of "Liquid Engineering" (and "Trans-structures") seem to have been studied since 2007 by Professors Namba and Professor Kengo Kuma of the University of Tokyo.
Recently, I believe that an experimental project in carried out in Hungary by Dr. Matyas Gutai to build a residential house was built with part of the envelope being water-filled panels. A summary of a book on Trans-Structures by Dr. Matyas is annexed for your reference.

Water is a material with high thermal inertia, so it is possible what you are saying. I was told about some experiences working with water in double-glass windowpanes, filling the cavity with water circulating permanently, but I don't know much more about it. Sorry.
My main question would be: How would you protect the water from freezing? Would you add antifreeze to the water?
Actually, there are projects that used water as the main envelope layer but with different approaches.
For protecting water from freezing; you need to insulate it ,, I mean if you analyze the interstitial layers in terms of temperature when it reaches to water it should be more than 0 Celsius degree ,, therefor the insulation properties of the envelope is another matter.
If you were able to introduce a circulating system and heat this water with solar panels, you could use it for insulation and even heating.
Perhaps, one disadvantage is weight, because this facade would be heavy as you are working with mass for thermal inertia.
Yes definitely, even using water as a source for heat pumps can be an option like solar panels.
As far as I know, Water density is much less than concrete or steel regarding to its weight. So even in this issue its an advantage.
It is worth more troubles than any meaningful solutions, which is why it has not been widely adopted beyond the experiments.
Maybe because its the only substance that you can find it in 3 phases with high dynamic ability in which controlling and maintaining it is a big deal
there are two key problems with this approach, and there may well be many more minor ones. The first is that water is not stable in the range of temperatures you may encounter depending on your climate. If you are in climates that have common temperatures below zeroC you could get freezing of the panel contents with potential disater due to the expnasion of material in volume causing hte panels to rupture. You could avoid this by adding a compund to lower the freezing point as we used to do in water filled vehicle radiators. Another way round this is to insulate the panels but then you have largely departed from your concept.
The second major problem is suggested by the reference to a radiator. Unless the panels are heavily divided and sub contained wyou may easily get convection which lowers the effectiveness of the water by readily transfering energy from one side to the other.
Yes . Why not? If you doing project with 3D max ,you should use water for material. But I think we can use water as material just in design it interior architecture but it's not good idea that we use water for material in civil. For example when anybody say us what is the material for this poor we can't say water. We should say it's concrete or...
