Nigerian Secondary School Students especially those from the Northern part of the country found it difficult to understand and perform excellently well in oral English both in practices and in the School Certificate Examinations. It must be noted that English Language is the official language in Nigeria with over 250 ethnic groups and above 500 native languages including Hausa language who is the most spoken language. The problem of oral English might be said to be inherent as it started from the primary level of education which supposed to take care of basic literacy and numeracy but failed in this capacity as even majority of the teachers found it difficult to speak English let alone undiluted oral English pronunciations . It could also be blamed on environmental influence of the type that about 90% of the parents and inhabitants of this region speak their local Language. It is good to expose that inability to communicate well in English Language has economic effects on Northern part of the country. This is because business transactions with other tribes becomes difficult without good communication in English Language. So, there is a need to look for effective teaching methods which could remedy this inherent and environmental issue not only in the Northern part of Nigeria but entire nation and Africa at large.
