Hello everyone,
I have performed behavior studies in transgenic mice and I used 4 different groups of animals for testing. Each group contained 5-8 animals. In order to attain sufficient power for analysis, I would like to repeat the experiment. So, my question is that, it it acceptable to combine the results from two different sets of experiments?

In general it is better to have everything at one stretch. But in certain cases for example insufficient number of animals, it can be repeated with the same settings. In order to avoid differences in data, it is advisable to maintain the same experimental conditions and to have same person/ technician to evaluate the data like in the first experiment. Hello, comment by Malleswari Challagundla says the whole thing. We sometimes need large sample, but our facility allows for certain cohorts. Therefore we have to collect data during many trials. As long as you do your best to replicate all the details of measurement and subject characteristics, it is fine. The only risk is increasing variance.

It is difficult to get large numbers. If one can compare results from different researcher, why not from the same worker with proper checks
Compare distributions of data obtained in different experiments. If the distributions of different datasets differ significantly, then better don't combine them.
