We know that due to the movement of electrons current generate. So in a complete circuit if we cut a connected wire in between, is it possible to collect the electrons in bowl which will be dropped from the cutting point of the wire ???
If you cut the wire you will open the circuit and the current will be interrupted.
In order to eject electrons from any material you have to give them an energy equal to energy barrier at the surface of the material. This energy is called the work function of the material.
In general electron emission can be accomplished by some methods:
- Thermionic emission by heating the material
- optical emission by subjecting the material to photon with the appropriate wavelength
- Field emission by subjecting the surface of the material to high electric field that can torn electrons from inside the material.
