Hi. I'm working on a new method by using method engineering approach. Can anyone suggest how to evaluate the acceptance (such as the TAM but for a method) of a new method?
Having proper research - scientific method that would lead to data collection and critical analysis with state-of-the-art literature review would be a good start.
I think the best way to evaluate a method would be to notice where it is published (e.g. top ranking journal in your discipline) and how many other people have cited it, who cited it, and where it has been cited. If the idea and the overall rigor is sound, and the research is executed appropriately, then the method maybe accepted.
As long as you are introducing a new method, then you are willing to improve a specific dimension (reduce mistakes, speed up delivery, increase collaboration, etc ...). The best thing to do is to compare your method with other methods during execution in a software project (live project with real developers), if you have time. Six sigma process improvement approach could be very useful for your work in that case. You will be able to statistically compare both methods and highlight the difference between different methods. You can also read about process re-engineering and try to use a package which simulates processes and compare the results using the six sigma concepts as well.
