A colleague of mine recommended I ask this question to the community. I am a qualitative researcher by training, moving more intently into mixed methods design. I am preparing a proposal for a small-group counseling intervention study across three schools, examining the growth of a cohort of students at each school longitudinally. As common in new/novel intervention work in schools, I am looking at about 15 youth per school (N=45). Therefore with regard designing quantitative research questions...would it be preferable to partner with three schools of the same student age group (i.e. 3 high schools), or three separate age groups (elementary, middle, and high school)?
