If you want rainfall and temperature data for any state in India, then you can use the readily available data sets from India Meteorological Department. ( 1 x 1 ) degree data for temperature over all India is available from 1969 onwards. And ( 1 x 1 ) , ( 0.5 x 0.5 ) degree data for rainfall is available from 1901 and 1971 respectively. May be if you are lucky enough then y'll get ( 0.25 x 0.25 ) very high resolution rainfall data if it is ready for release. Visit www.imd.gov.in to purchase the data. If you want data for any particular state only then it will also be made available to you for your required research. I myself have use these data sets. Hope y'll find my answer satisfactory.

If you are not able to pay for the Meteo-data, you can use freely available re-analyses data - i.e. from ERA Interim (1979-recent time).

The re-analysis provides data for surface air temperature, large scale and total precipitation with different resolution - for free.

The problem with these studies is getting the aerosol data going back that far, because as far as I know, it only goes back in archives like at NAAPS for about five years, at http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/aerosol/index_shortcuts.html

I have been using the NAAPS dust maps to study the droughts and flood events over India, Pakistan and Arabia for a few years, with great results, like at http://www.ecoseeds.com/floods.html

You can use MODIS products including SST and precipitable water vapor. To gain more information, you can refer to the following publication:

You can download the long term precipitation data over India from IITM pune website for each different region along with temperature data. You can use CRU(0.25x0.25 deg) high resolution data sets also.

You can get rainfall data for the entire country from IMD. IMD is having gridded data of .25*.25 degree, .5*.5 degree, 1*1 degree and 5*5degree. Based on your requirement you can send a letter of request from your department head and they will provide you.

You can use the gridded TRMMM data or CRU or GPCC precipitation data sets. Else, if you have your own county data it will help for your analysis.
