Its a tree available in Son Beel wetland in Karimganj, Assam, India which is the site of my research. The tree is locally known as "Izoil" found only in the wetland. During flood the tree gets submerged.
This is Barringtonia racemosa of the family Lecithidaceae. The plant is seen near wet lands. Seen in a wide range from Sputh Africa, Madagascar, India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, southern China, northern Australia.
Barringtonia racemosa is a mangrove that grows in saline coastal habitat and its presence in Son Beel wetland, which is a fresh water wetland , is doubtful. The actual botanical identity of the plant in question can be ascertained if the plant specimens are available in flowering/fruiting.
