Recognizing the threats to biological diversity in arid areas and significance of populations studies, the July 2015 issue of Journal of King Saud University - Science (JKSUS) was decided to be a Special Issue on “Abundance Estimation in an Arid Environment” with the aim to take the stock of current trends and status of research in this domain.

The editors have established expertise in population estimations in diverse environments using a variety of techniques and hope, the support of experts and authors will enable us to produce a meaningful publication in line with the objectives.

I request All colleagues, researchers to kindly consider sending manuscripts for possible publication in the Special Issue (or regular issue) and I assure you best of my time and efforts during the processing of your manuscript.

Few words about the journal: It is open access Elsevier journal, indexed in Scopus, ScienceDirect, Biosis and other databases. This quarterly Journal has no publication charges of any kind.

I believe quality work appearing in this Special Issue will add to the conservation efforts carried out in arid environment.
