Almost all research builds on the work of others. When researchers have recourse to refer to the work of other people, appropriate reference (citation) clears them of any blame for using another person's work. However, where a researcher fails to 'adequately' cite another's work, blame arises. Yet, the literature is full of presumed allowances for what is termed a blur between copyright infringement and plagiarism. At what point does this blur occur?
