Well, I partly share your point. I see the contribution of the new technology in creating access to educational matters. But, your assertion that the current world of work requires a specialized skill and this could be accessed via the new technology may be doubtful. I feel that we are in a swiftly changing world (the skill mastered today will be obsolete in the near future), which requires us to have 'learn how to learn strategies' instead of mastering specific skills. University education is, therefore, a conducive environment in developing the capacity of 'learning how to learn strategy'.

I am somehow attracted to Isoken's opinion on the possibility of "good-paying professional job" for those with "short-term computer-based trainings", compared to those with bachelors or masters degree. But, that will not always be the case in certain communities and not all jobs are computer-based. Computer is just a "tool" to make your job move faster, handy and easier with minimum need of manpower. I think the danger of computer is - it will eliminate the requirement of manpower especially in the industrial sector. When industrialists consider robotic instead of human being, everyone will be victimised, be it an ICT expert or a sociology graduate. Depending on the national strategy in employment and manpower planning, I think formal university education will still relevant for the next hundred of years. Today, technology is increasingly taking the lead in society and, in addition to positive effects, brings many negative ones. Since I recently completed my master's degree in early and preschool education, I testify to the importance of interaction with experienced professors who, in addition to theory, encouraged students to think critically and in group discussions. I think that this personal aspect, which we can only get in direct contact, plays a big role, not only in the social sciences, but in all fields. People today have become full of information and technical knowledge, but the big problem becomes practical incompetence when it comes to problems and social insensitivity, which only increases if formal contact excludes direct contact with professors who often play a key role in holistic learning with their experience and advice.

Information Technology has made a considerable numbers of change in today’s world. In every sectors, it introduces a new dimension and education system is not beyond it,especially university. The students who study at university are adult and have easy access of technology . Moreover, present pandemic situation makes it more reliable. Furthermore, teachers also feel free of online education except a few. Additionally, time, convenience will save and distant learning will be accessible. Finally, technology will make a change in university education.

You will be more engaged to learn if you are interested in the subject. But you will likely get a higher paying job if you choose a degree that leads to a career that's in demand.

I seem a departure from most of my colleagues, perhaps because I view the mission of an educator differently. If the concern is simply with facts and mechanical, repetitive skills, than online courses, even YouTube and recordings can suffice nicely. However, I see our charge somewhat differently.

I believe the charge of an educator is to improve our students' ability to think. It is less about facts and particular, narrow skills, than it is about the ability to analyze independently, successfully combine disparities, and find concordances where others find differences. I have a powerful ally on my side:

I am reliant on technologies, the thing that could determine the destiny of our future. However, I don't think the online course and technologically supported short-term training are as better as university-based education. rather the technology is deceiving the young generation in making it superficial and uncritical.

My answer to the above question is "NO".. The print media have not gone into extinction due to information technology. Neither will formal University education.

Teacher Google @Fred Namasaka, can answer all questions but lacks the practical expertise. For instance,Teacher Google can list all ingredients for a particular "soup" but University experts would critically practicalize various ways of getting that soup prepared. My take is that though technology is good and produces fast results, it is not a threat to formal University education .

Well, there are reasons to believe that ICT has come to stay but I don't see traditional universities facing extinction as a consequence. The information offered online are a product of individuals who passed through the university. If universities become extinct, then we will be affected.

I think, a traditional university degree is required for most professions. First of all, a person who can only press buttons will not be able to predict the outcome of own activities.

Besides learning how to think, there are many technical and professional skills that can only be acquired through hands-on manipulation of apparatus or substance. These skills cannot be acquired through watching Youtube videos. There are also many social skills and contacts developed when young adults attend tertiary institutions in person.
