Lately, I have read a book called "The Humans" which is about an alien coming to earth and I was wondering if there are any ways to know about the life in other planets and that can we connect with aliens (if they do exist) in cases? If so how?

We can't connect with aliens beings in other planets because the distances are enormous. The intelligent beings more near to Earth are, approximately, at 600 light years. How can I know this? They were here, in our planet, till 2011.
