Require an alternative way to analyze the chemical structure and polymer origin of microplastics without μ-FT-IR. Since μ-FT-IR is very expensive to run samples for analysis, any alternative approaches would be very useful.
You may try "Micro Confocal Raman Imaging Hyperspectral Spectroscopy" which has database of around 25,000 of chemical compounds (including plastic polymers). If you have well-prepared sampls, then you can identify the microplastics composition.
You don't need the micro FT-IR. A common FT-IR or IR would do the job as the polymers like PP, PE, PS, and PA have very characteristic bands.
Besides Infrared techniques, you can also use x-ray crystallography and thermometric techniques as Differential thermal analysis (DTA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).
