When researching autoethnography as a method, I came across works which use other resources and cite them accordingly in the articles, and such which represent only the personal experience (of course situated in the surrounding cultural context).
Have you came across any guidelines about what is preferred when trying to publish an autoethnography in an academic journal?
as autoethnography is still a new and novel methodology in the primarily positivist research field, i do not see many published books or guidelines on what to do and how to do it. you may refer to my autoethnography paper below to the view the reference list if it helps you.
