I have S isotopic ratios for some rock samples of calcium and magnesium sulfates but I do not have the oxygen isotopic values for all this rock samples. I would like to know if it´s possible to use an empirical formula based on abundances of these oxygen stable isotopes to evaluate or try a rough approach based on whole-rock geochemical data from these samples?
I think no, because it is measurable data and we have to receive information from this measurement to use in interpretation of genetical conditions of rocks. O and S isotopes have a different origin in rocks, so you can find the same rocks with equal S, but O concentration can be vary.
The O and S isotopes are two different parameters in sulfate minerals and therefore measurement of these need to be done separately.
It is hard to give such relations, sulfur isotopes in sulfates could have all combinations O16, 17 and 18. Because those are sulfate minerals might indicate roughly about enrichment of O18.
